How to Run Defrag

In order for the systems to run at their best level, it is suggested that the stations be defragmented periodically. Generally during installation we set the stations to defrag themselves automatically Friday night at 2am.

Although our procedures for closing include turning the computers off at the end of the day, on Fridays one should leave them on in order to allow the defrag procedure to run.

Under normal circumstances, it is not necessary to run defrag manually, but should the need arise to do so, the procedure is as follows:

To run defrag manually:

1. Exit Restaurant Master (System Manager -> Quit RMNX)

2. Click My_Computer

3. Single-Click the C: Drive

4. File -> Properties

5. Choose the Tools Tab

6. Click the “Check Now” button

7. Choose “Standard” under type of test

8. Click the “Automatically fix errors” box

9. Click Start

10. When finished, click the “Close” button

11. Click the “Defragment Now” button

12. When finished click “Close” then “OK”

13. Reboot the system by hitting Start -> Shutdown -> Restart

If you are not automatically defragging you computer and choose to do it manually, it should be done once per month on all stations.
